從這一認識出發，將米浪溝灣剖面150ka以來的砂丘堆積劃分為38個旋迴的沙漠期與間沙漠期交替演化過程，並認為，該剖面自那時以來發生的38個砂丘沉積與河湖相或古土壤的演替過程，實際上是這一長期地質時代毛烏素沙漠受東亞冬夏古代季風影響交替演化所致。
