    當焦炭推上攔焦車進入熄焦器后，立即關閉罐蓋，同時啟動真空泵、冷凍機、高壓循環水泵，這時，燃燒著的焦炭就會因真空泵把熄焦器內抽成負壓，由於缺氧，使焦炭熄滅，雖然煤炭在瞬間被熄滅，但由於焦炭生成過程中所產生的大量的熱量還存在，這時，冷凍機和夾層中的循環水的工作就會把焦炭中的熱量帶走，使之在短時間內將溫度降到60以下，在這種狀態下把焦炭從熄焦器內推出入庫，焦炭就不會復燃。
