根據文獻報道，紅黴素鏈黴菌中的丙酸激酶對丙酸的利用率是對乙酸的利用率的13倍；而在生米卡鏈黴菌中，無特異的丙酸激酶，菌體對丙酸的利用低於對乙酸的利用，因此希望利用原生質體種間融合的方法將紅黴素鏈黴菌的丙酸激酶基因轉移到生米卡鏈黴菌中，從而使融合子能夠利用丙酸鹽作為合成mdma _ 1的前體，提高mdma _ 1的產量，降低生產成本。
