    經過幾代人的努力，我區的衛生事業從無到有，從小到大，取得了長足的發展，至1999年10月，我區內共有各級各類醫療衛生機構192個，其中省級一家即河北省第六人民醫院軍隊醫院一家即二五二醫院市級醫院8家即保定市第一醫院保定市第一中心醫院保定市第三醫院保定急救中心保定市法醫醫院保定市聲學研究所保定市衛生防疫站區直屬單位三家即保定市第五醫院北市區衛生防疫站北市區婦幼保健站三個鄉醫院即韓莊鄉醫院東金莊鄉醫院百樓鄉醫院;此外還有56個村衛生所70戶個體診所50個企業事業單位衛生室。一個從城市為中心，以農村為重點，集醫療預防保健康復科研和公共衛生監督等多功能多層次並基本滿足社會需求的衛生工作網路初具規模。在大力發展社會主義市場經濟的新形式下，我區衛生系統始終堅持物質文明和精神文明一起抓，始終把社會效益放在第一位，緊緊圍繞「一切以健康為中心，努力塑造」窗口形象，市第五醫院被保定市文明委保定市衛生局命名為文明服務二星級單位。
