    筆者在這一部分主要通過論述水在傣族的各種宗教信仰、巫術活動、生老病死、婚喪嫁娶、節日慶典、神話傳說等等各種風俗習慣中的作用，分析並解釋水這一傣族的核心文化因子之一，在傣族人的思維和觀念中有著什麼樣的象徵含義。並且藉助對水的象徵意義的闡釋，進一步理解傣族人的觀念世界。這也是筆者對文化的解釋所做的一點嘗試。
