    大雁塔坐落在西安城南四公里處的大慈恩寺內，初建於公元648年，中國歷史上著名僧人玄奘于公元628年沿絲路往印度等國求法取經， 16年後歸國，攜回佛經657部，為保存這些佛教經典，他向皇帝建議修建大雁塔，並在此從事翻譯著述達11年之久，譯出74部梵文經典，大雁塔內所藏書法，繪畫雕刻，極具史學價值。
