首先對不同土樣進行了一系列室內真空固結和加載固結的對比試驗，通過對試驗結果的比較分析，明確了抽真空引起土樣固結的原因，即抽真空作用會在四個方面對試樣產生影響：毛細管勢的改變、封閉氣泡的排出、汽化現象及大氣壓的作用，而其中大氣壓的作用是最主要的。
