How infinite and inexpressible a blessing it is, that the knowledge of god, and of the doctrine of salvation by christ jesus, is so plainly laid down in the word of god ; so easy to be receiv d and understood : that as the bare reading the scripture made me capable of understanding enough of my duty, to carry me directly on to the great work of sincere repentance for my sins, and laying hold of a saviour for life and salvation, to a stated reformation in practice, and obedience to all god s commands, and this without any teacher or instructer ; i mean, humane ; so the same plain instruction sufficiently serv d to the enlightning this savage creature, and bringing him to be such a christian, as i have known few equal to him in my life
我覺得關于對上帝的認識和耶穌救人的道理，在聖經中寫得這樣明明白白，這樣容易接受，容易理解，這對人類實在是一種無限的難以言喻的幸福。因為，僅僅閱讀聖經，就能使自己認識到自己的責任，並勇往直前地去擔負起這樣一個重大的任務：真誠地懺悔自己的罪行，依靠救主耶穌來拯救自己，在實踐中改造自己，服從上帝的一切指示而所有這些認識，都是在沒有別人的幫助和教導下獲得的這兒的"別人" ，我是指自己的同類-人類，而只要自己閱讀聖經就能無師自通。
