The destruction resistant properties of several standard test ore pieces and natural ore blocks of various sizes were measured. the results show that the compression strength of natural ore is far less than that of standard test pieces and has the tendency of increase with the decrease of the size, which suggests that it is unrational to use the compression strength of standard test pieces to represent the destructive strength of rock ore in calculating the ball size for the coarse grinding of metal ores
