本論文分為三大部分，第一部分陳述山西地區文化歷史，分別說明了磚石裝飾產生的環境特徵和建築磚石裝飾構件與建築的關系；第二部分討論磚石裝飾構件的文化內涵和藝術特點，是論文的重點部分，著重說明了裝飾在人與建築溝通方面的重要作用；第三部分具有一定的現實意義，將建築的人性論引入現代建築設計的思維模式，對現今建築提出質疑，同時以新的角度看待傳統建築的繼承問題。
