本文以湖北宜昌長江公路大橋（主跨為960m的單跨懸索橋）的設計與施工為背景，對大跨懸索橋設計與施工中的若干問題如懸索橋結構的合理布置、加勁鋼箱梁斷面型式的合理選取、錨碇結構的合理確定以及錨碇大體積混凝土設計與施工的綜合防裂技術等進行了研究，取得了一批富於實用價值的研究成果，為宜昌長江公路大橋的順利建成提供了卓有成效的技術支持。
