本論文根據輕烴、碳同位素、生物標志化合物等資料，運用全烴地球化學油源對比方法進行油源對比，得出吉木薩爾凹陷東斜坡區二疊系的稠油來自平地泉組泥巖，石炭系的稀油來自石炭系本身源巖；同時，根據地化資料研究了原油的成因，認為二疊系稠油是生物降解和成熟度較低共同作用的結果，石炭系的稀油存在輕組分散失現象；最後，綜合構造、沉積、烴源巖和油藏地球化學資料，分析了吉木薩爾凹陷原油的成藏機制和模式。
