作者在參閱大量國內外有關文獻，著重探討了水泵流量、揚程、軸功率、轉速的測試原理和測試方法，提出了採用電測法並結合電機效率特性曲線測量水泵軸功率，從而避免了損耗分析法中大量復雜的中間過程，滿足了試驗裝置的自動化測量要求；採用漏磁感應線圈法測量電機轉速，彌補了其它轉速測量方法對水下電機測試的局限性，適應了萊恩公司開發潛水電泵的實際需要。
