Abstract : a method was put forward for the detection of the fatigue cracks at the thread roots of a drill pipe by using ultrasonic wave. the specific detection probes were designed. simulated cracks were detected. the results show that the probes can effectively detect the cracks whose depth is more than 1mm and the detection errors of the depth and length of the cracks are less than 1mm and 3mm respectively
