雖然我國新修訂的《商標法》增加了地理標志的規定，新出臺的《地理標志產品保護規定》以部門規定的形式確立了對地理標志的保護，但由於我國在地理標志保護方面起步較晚，與世界上發達國家相比，我國對地理標志的規定還不健全、不完善，人們對地理標志進行周密保護的必要性仍然缺乏足夠的重視。我國已經加入了世界貿易組織，要想在世界貿易組織中更好地發揮我國的優勢，就必須在地理標志保護方面進行明確規定和有效立法。
