越來越多的研究證據表明，血流動力學因素在動脈粥樣硬化的發生和發展過程中起著關鍵的作用。但時至今日血流動力學因素確切的作用還需要進一步了解，因此更深入地研究動脈粥樣硬化的生物力學機理對于掌握動脈粥樣硬化的病理和發病規律有著巨大的研究價值。近年來，隨著人們生活水平的不斷提高和生活結構的逐步改變，心血管病的發病率也在不斷增加，並已經成為危害人類生命健康最為嚴重的疾病之一，其患病率和死亡率居各類疾病之首，因而成為發達國家和發展中國家的頭號殺手。
