但由於歷史原因，現在中日兩國人民之間存在著嚴重的缺乏理解、缺乏信賴的情況，這對中日兩國發展長期友好的睦鄰合作關系非常不利。本人從學術角度展開對日本外交形象的研究，就是希望能從這樣一個側面客觀地介紹日本的外交形象，使國人對日本的外交形象有一個比較清晰的認識，促進兩國人民的相互理解。同時，本人也希望拙筆能夠起到拋磚引玉的作用，促進國際政治或者相關專業對形象、日本形象的系統研究，繁榮學術界，填補理論研究空白。
