摘要回顧了油氣地球化學勘查在中國石油工業發展歷史中的作用和貢獻，分析了其現狀和發展前景；總結和介紹了油氣地球化學勘查中的常見分析測試技術和方法，在油氣資源調查工作中的優勢、應用范圍及其發展趨勢；並在此基礎上提出對我國油氣地球化學勘查研究工作的四點建議：立足理論研究，開拓應用技術；大力開展海洋油氣資源勘查的室內外地球化學分析測試技術研究；積極構建管理和技術平臺，整合地球化學勘查技術和數據資源；協調開展綜合油氣勘查工作。
