與曲流河亞相相比，辮狀河亞相砂巖的粒度較粗，分選性較好，砂體多次疊置而規模更大；相同河流亞相的河道微相與泛濫平原微相相比，前者的砂巖粒度較粗、分選性較好，發育槽狀交錯層理等大型層理構造；在同一微相內，處于中下部的流體單元其粒度較粗，分選較好。
