自唐代始，當地山民普遍以此為茶，據傳宋神宗年間，宰相王安石薦其入宮，其鮮爽清醇的滋味和獨有的廣泛的保健特色，深得神宗和余妃的表睞，隨之滿朝文武和后宮嬪妃竟相飲用。從此，藤茶作為宮廷貢品登堂入室，歷宋元明清千年而不衰。
