隨著計算機輔助設計（ cad ）的迅速發展，集成化cad系統的研製與開發成為當今計算機集成製造系統（ cims ）環境下cad的發展方向，因而產品的整個設計製造過程的實質即是對信息的採集、傳遞、加工和處理過程，其本質體現在以信息集成為特徵的技術集成方面，而工程設計中傳統的數據組織方式已不能有效地描述和表達產品設計信息。
