研究認為，在做好水平井地質設計和鉆井設計的基礎上，要實現隨鉆跟蹤地質目標鉆井，必須充分利用隨鉆測量、隨鉆測井和錄井等資料，從實時巖性識別、隨鉆測井解釋和地層評價、目標層地質模型建立、導向標志層的選取及模擬曲線對比等方面入手，確定鉆頭上下傾鉆進方向及在目標層中的位置，以實時調整井眼軌跡，使其盡可能在儲層物性較好的部位延伸。
