傳統的基於dct的圖像編碼演算法的一個共同特點就是:不管圖像的具體內容，採用固定的塊尺寸進行統一的處理，例如jpeg ， mpeg - 1 / 2 ， h . 263均採用固定的8 8分塊方式，本文的重點工作是針對這些採用固定的塊尺寸進行統一處理的演算法的一些缺點，提出了一種基於自適應分塊的序列圖像壓縮演算法，該演算法是一種根據序列圖像兩幀間對應塊的差別自動調整dct變換尺寸（ 8 8或4 4 ） ，對不必要的數據塊不進行處理，以提高編碼效率的序列圖像壓縮編碼方法，具有較高的編碼效率和較好的壓縮效果，與傳統的採用8 8固定分塊方式的壓縮編碼演算法相比，性能有較大幅度的提高，在文中，作者對兩者的壓縮編碼性能進行了分析比較。
