A double blind clinical investigation on the treatment of 137 cases of hsv keratitis with ganciclovir and acyclovir （ eye - drops ） was carried out. both eye - drops proved equally effective with cure rate 86. 5 （ ganciclovir ） and 90. 0 （ acyclovir ） respectively. there were no statistically significant difference between the treatment group in the treatment efficacy of two agents. the results showed that the topical ganciclovir was an effective and safe antiviral agent in the treatment of hsv keratitis
