本文第一章簡介了液晶的有關基本概念；綜述了聚氨酯液晶的研究進展，並著重總結了聚氨酯液晶的合成方法和影響聚氨酯液晶形成液晶相的因素；介紹了非線性光學聚氨酯液晶，對非線性光學聚合物液晶體系也作了扼要的闡述，指出利用含有既是液晶基元又是非線性光學單元的偶氮基團的化合物合成聚氨酯液晶，實現兩者結合的可能性。
