班鳩是香港常見鳥類，屬鳩鴿科，體形豐滿，頭細小，咀腳皆短，單獨或小群活動，通常在地上一面走，一面發出輕柔的咕咕聲；馬來語稱斑鳩為terkukur ，就是仿其叫聲。
