Traffic safety, efficiency and environmental protection are three major goals of transportation. refering to these goals, an overview of current status and trends of transportation are presented in this paper. the paper also discusses possible solutions for future transportation and concludes with view points as follows. the integration of technologies of computer telecommunication and transportation will totally change the world as well as the life style of mankind. green energy, advanced material and other favourable technologies for environment are the growth points related to transportation. traditional technologies are likely to be very close to their practical limits. the adjustment of academic infrastructure of wtu is in urgent needs for the survival and developement in 21st century which will be full of competition
依照交通的三大目標，即安全、效率及環境保護，分析了當前的現狀和趨勢，介紹了解決問題的途徑，指出遠程通信和智能交通系統的出現將會使人類的生活發生極大的變化.與交通密切相關的綠色能源和先進材料等環境友好技術也將是21世紀新的增長熱點.而傳統技術則已非常接近極限.在充滿競爭的新世紀到來之時，武漢交通科技大學的學科結構必需及時地進行重大的調整 -
