她幾乎不知道該怎麼辦，拾了一根小樹枝，伸向小狗，那隻小狗立即跳了起來，高興地汪汪叫著，向樹枝沖過去，假裝要咬，愛麗絲急忙躲進一排薊樹叢後面，免得給小狗撞倒，她剛躲到另一邊，小狗就向樹枝發起第二次沖鋒。它沖得太急了，不但沒有抓著樹枝，反而翻了個筋斗，愛麗絲覺得真像同一匹馬玩耍，隨時都有被它踩在腳下的危險，因此，她又圍著薊樹叢轉了起來，那隻小狗又向樹枝發起了一連串的沖鋒。每一次都沖過了頭，然後再後退老遠，而且嘶聲地狂吠著。
