The improvement on the process of automatically measuring city buildings is one of the most important problems in the current aerial photographic measurement. an approach to measuring a city building based on its structure information is presented. a city building ' s ideal model is first represented by some independent parameters according to its structure information and some image variants which can induce model parameters are defined, and then the initial value of image variants are acquired by combining all kinds of information in the left and right images. finally the optimal location of the building is found for some certain criteria. an implementation of this method is illustrated on flat - roof and rectangular buildings in detail. the experimental results show that not only the method is more automatic than existing methods but also the precision of measurement can satisfy the acquirement of the current aerial photographic measurement, and confirm the method has a good developmental and applied potential
