  7. 3. whenever the president transmits to the president pro tempore of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the vice president as acting president

Section 3. whenever the president transmits to the president pro tempore of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the vice president as acting president

Thereafter, when the president transmits to the president pro tempore of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the vice president and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as congress may by law provide, transmits within four days to the president pro tempore of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives their written declaration that the president is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office

    此後，當總統向參議院臨時議長和眾議院議長提交書面聲明，聲稱喪失能力的情況不存在時，他應恢復總統職務的權力和責任，除非副總統和行政各部長官的多數或國會以法律設立的其它機構成員的多數在四天之內向參議院臨時議長和眾議院議長提交書面聲明，聲稱總統不能夠履行總統職務的權力和責任。
  10. If the congress, within twenty - one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if congress is not in session within twenty - one days after congress is required to assemble, determines by two - thirds vote of both houses that the president is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the vice president shall continue to discharge the same as acting president ; otherwise, the president shall resume the powers and duties of his office

    如國會在收到后一書面聲明后的二十一天以內，或如適逢休會期間，則在國會按照要求集會以後的二十一天以內，以兩院的三分之二的票數決定總統不能夠履行總統職務的權力和責任，副總統應繼續作為代理總統履行總統職務的權力和責任否則總統應恢復總統職務的權力和責任。
