隨著數控加工在我國的深入開展，真正實現我國的凸輪cad cam就顯得非常必要，但以往的凸輪設計軟體還存在許多不足，如可設計的凸輪類型較少，大多集中於平面凸輪；且採用誤差較大、節點數過密的直線逼近法生成凸輪工作曲線，造成計算時間長，且加工中產生較大振動；同時這些凸輪設計軟體基本上只具有cad功能，如果想將設計好的凸輪進行模擬和加工，就必須將圖形輸出到其它通用cad cam軟體（如mastercam等）中，因此這些軟體在實際應用中總不盡人意。
