在對河北省承德市豐寧滿族自治縣及唐山市遷安市（縣級市）和灤南縣的農村社區的私了現象調查的基礎上，本研究深入分析了農村社區私了的現狀、分類及原因，並著重探討了私了過程中的國家法與民間規則的互動，認為：作為糾紛的解決方式，私了本質上首先是一種非訴訟的民間糾紛解決機制，它可以經濟、方便、迅速解決糾紛，並且在糾紛解決過程中能夠較好地維護先前的和睦關系，保護當事人雙方的面子，有利於維護社會穩定。
