But if i can express at this distance the thoughts i had about me at that time, i was in tenfold more horror of mind upon account of my former convictions, and the having returned from them to the resolutions i had wickedly taken at first, than i was at death it self ; and these added to the terror of the storm, put me into such a condition, that i can by no words describe it
此時此刻，當我執筆記述我那時的心情，我感到，那時我固然也害怕死，使我更害怕的是想到自己違背了自己不久前所作的懺悔，並且又像在前次危難中那樣重新下定種種決心，這種恐懼感比我害怕死更甚。當時的心情既然如此，再加上對風暴的恐怖，那種心理狀態即使現在我也無法用筆墨描述。
