本研究在結構主義經濟增長理論、產業結構演進規律和二元經濟結構論等經濟學理論的基礎上，首先通過產值比重結構對比、產業結構變動度、產業結構波動度、產業結構相似度和偏離系數等指標和方法，從多方面分析了改革開放以來湖北省農業產業結構演進與現狀特徵：農業產業結構逐步優化，但結構單一，面臨危機；農業產業結構呈階段性演進；農業產業結構演進缺乏動力；種植業成為湖北省農業產業結構優化障礙；農業產值與產量結構不對稱，出現逆向變化；農業產業結構與周邊省份趨同等。
