例如，人類正常的紅血球每120天便會老化死亡，所以骨髓細胞會持續產生新的紅血球，以維持人類正常之身體功能，所以如果缺乏維他命b12 ，便容易造成紅血球生合成功能不全，進而導致巨大型紅血球貧血megaloblastic anemia又例如，因長期缺乏維他命b12 ，會造成神經髓鞘myelin生合成功能不全，進而導致神經炎及腦部發育不全等等。
