換言之，學術史的主要研究不應是哲學或思想的思辯，而是從學科發展的角度來衡量其是非價值，也即是從知識增長（ 「學」 ）和方法論（ 「術」 ）的角度來描述某一學科的發展與建設? ?它無疑與文化史、政治史、社會史或經濟史有這樣或那樣的聯系，而我們也正好將要看到， 17 、 18 、 19世紀的學者是如何在朝廷、書院、幕府與經濟贊助人所組成的歷史環境中穿梭的? ?這種變化真實地反映了學者的價值取向與知識系統的變化。
